Almería, Sun and Beach

Almería-Cabo de Gata Nijar is the most untouched and least explored area of the province of Almería, an area which finds its maximum expression in the small fishing villages steeped in ancient custom and traditions that seem to have been suspended in time, like picture post cards from the past.

As a centre for tourism, the Western Coast boasts a large number of Blue Flag beaches with the accompanying services and amenities that put the finishing touches on holidaymaking.

Sunbathing on the beaches of Almerimar or Beach Serena, or windsurfing at dawn are good ways to start the day, which can be nicely rounded out by enjoying the peace of the wide-open spaces in the afternoon, or by renting a boat at the marina from which to watch the sun set. Recommended...

No one choosing to visit the Cabo de Gata- Níjar Natural Park, with its majestic pink should not waste the opportunity to submerge in the crystalline waters of the coast.

Eastern Almería Coast

The diversity of the landscape and the changing coastline is what gives Almería’s Levante, or eastern coast, its unique personality, and is without a doubt its prime appeal to tourists. This coastline, reaching from the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park to the border with the province of Murcia, offers tourists everything from wide golden fine-sand sand beaches to sheer cliffs and secluded coves. The abrupt coastline gives a special charm to fishing villages like Garrucha and Mojácar, which perch high and unspoilt above the sea below. To the area’s four Blue Flag beaches, one in Vera (Las Marinas-Bolagas), another in Garrucha and two more in Carboneras (El Ancon and Los Barquicos) we must add the numerous secluded beaches, such as Los Muertos and Cala Cristal, which are, obviously, ideal settings for the practice of naturism. In particular, the Playazo de Vera boasts a reserved area for naturists, including hotels and facilities enjoyed by visitors from all over Europe. Monuments, such as the Terrenos and Isla Negra, both in Pulpí, or the Cabo de Gata Níjar Natural Park, give visitors an idea of the peace and quiet to be enjoyed in this part of the province. For those wishing a bit more action, they can head for golf courses like Desert Spring Golf in Cuevas del Almanzora, gather for coffee at the Garrucha marina, or scuba dive, wate ski, or walk along a nature trail.

Western Almeria Coast

This coastline is the centre of Almeria’s tourist industry, owing both to the towns set along it and to the intrinsic features of the coast. The geography of this gently curving coast, which bade farewell to a grieving Boabdil, the last
king of Al-Andalus, favours the presence of well-connected beaches where holidaymakers will find a large variety of services all within a few metres. Needless to say, nine beaches of the western coast of this province boast the Blue Flag. Of these, we find the beaches of La Romanilla, Urbanizacion Roquetas and Playa Serena in the town of Roquetas del Mar; the beaches of San Miguel-Poniente, Balerma and
Levante-Almerimar in the town of El Ejido; and in the town of Adra find San Nicolás-Levante and Poniente. In spite of being a centre for tourism, tourist activities do not come into conflict with the natural environment. Proof of this are the coast’s unspoilt beaches and the areas known as Punta Entinas-Sabinar, The Albuferas Natural Reserve of Adra, the Barrier Reef of Posidonia, in Roquetas de Mar, and the Salinas at Guardias Viejas, all enchanting and well deserving of a visit.
Windsurfing enthusiasts will find their dream spot at the Ensenada de San Miguel, in El Ejiido, or Playa Serena, in Roquetas de Mar, and golfers may choose between several
complete courses. In the afternoon visitors may choose to go on a boat outing, departing from the marinas of Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, Almerimar or Adra. More active individuals can choose from a wide array of risk sports.
